Hardware: EMC Clariion CX3-10 HP BL460c Blade Server with Emulex LPe1105 dual HBA Software: RHEL4 U6 with included Emulex driver 8.0.16.34 PowerPath. The Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) Driver (16.8.3.1003) supports the configuration and enabling of system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory and maintenance of RAID 0/1/5/10. Driver: Windows 10, 64-bit. Windows Server 2016. 16.8.3.1003 Latest: 7/2/2020: Intel® Optane™ Memory User Interface and Driver for System. When you select the Load Driver option during the operating system build of a Windows 2008 server in a BFS configuration, a multiple entry of the Emulex driver is displayed. If multiple types of HBAs are displayed, select the first entry before proceeding.

A device that is used for the purpose of connection with one or more SCSI devices to the bus of computer is known as SCSI host adapter. It is popularly known as SCSI controller; however, it is not strictly known about which component understanding SCSI protocol can be termed as a controller. Therefore, all SCSI devices have got controller of SCSI created into them, whereas host adapters (excluding CD ROM or hard disk) may bear the responsibility to transfer data between the input/output bus of the computer and SCSI bus. These adapters are worthy ones for FireWire Ports.
Most of the modern SCSI host adapters are nothing but PCI cards, either 64 bit or 32 bit ones. Earlier, these were dependent on 16 bit ISA bus or even the 32 bit VESA as well as EISA buses. This is common for the host adaptor of SCSI to be created into the motherboard of the PC, as an important internal part. However, this makes the board very expensive and it is mostly observed that this host adapter is bought as a separate component, due to which it can be replaced or transferred easily.

Here are manufacturers of SCSI adapters, drivers for which you can download on our website. 41731 drivers for 1576 devices from 51 manufacturers, you can download absolutely free of charge. Select the desired device, the manufacturer or the device ID.

A step by step how to configure hardware iSCSI (Emulex 10Gb) on XenServer.

Although Citrix does not support officially Emulex HBA’s, and even suggests you not to use it at all, you can try to configure hardware 10Gb iSCSI by your own.

Tested on: HP c7000 blade chassis, HP BL685c G7 blades with Emulex OneConnect 10Gb NIC/iSCSI/FCoE HBA, HP ProCurve 6120XG Blade Switch, HP P2000 G3 10Gb iSCSI Storage and XenServer 5.6.

I assume you have configured iSCSI network according to Citrix/RHEL suggestions. That basically means:

  • separate iSCSI network
  • enabled Flow Control and Jumbo frames on 10GbE switches, storage controllers
  • configured RAID groups with proper mappings on storage array

1) Be sure XenServer kernel “knows” about your Emulex 10GbE iSCSI HBA

2) Emulex OneCommand Manager CLI

To configure Emulex HBA you can use Emulex 10GbE iSCSI Bios (type Ctr S during server start when iSCSI HBAs will appear) or you can use software provided by Emulex which should be installed on XenServer by default. It is highly advisable to read this User Manual.

To list HBA’s on the system type as a root “hbacmd listhbas”:

Apart from not loading QLogic libs error it returns nothing. Therefore you may suspect that OneCommand daemons were not started. To start them manually type as a root /usr/sbin/ocmanager/start_ocmanager. If there is a libsensors error while starting iSCSI SNMP Daemon install lm_sensors package and restart OCM.

Now when OCM Daemons are runnning, and QLogic is commented (/etc/hba.conf) you can check iSCSI HBAs:

In case you get nothing run command without “pt=iscsi” and find Model section e.g.:

Model : NC551i

That means XenServer official driver does not support this model of HBA, therefore you need to download the driver from Emulex site.

If the command returned list of iSCSI HBAs just skip the next step and proceed with configuration section.

3) Emulex 10Gb iSCSI driver

I have checked this also on new release of XenServer 6.0. Well sadly, on both XenServer (5.6/6.0) installations, I have the same be2iscsi driver version – 2.0.549.0:

The solution for this is to download the newest driver from Emulex site. Download and install a proper iSCSI binary RPM driver kit Version x.x.x.x.x driver and install script for your Citrix XenServer version, e.g.: version 4.0.317.0 – solves the problem (unfortunately this solution does not work for XenServer 6.0 due to the problem with emulex driver for 6.0 release).

The newly installed be2iscsi module for XenServer 5.6 should looks like this:

Drivers Emulex Scsi Drive

Now you can see all iSCSI HBAs on the system.

Finally, start iSCSI HBA configuration. As it was mentioned before, you can use HBA Bios or hbacmd command, and of course if it is configured via HBA’s Bios, hbacmd will print its configuration.

4) HBA configuration via hbacmd

To add LUNs to server’s HBA proceed with the following steps (the hbacmd commands are pretty obvious):

a) hbacmd SetNetworkConfiguration example:

SCSI

hbacmd SetNetworkConfiguration b4-99-b1-a3-a7-e9 VLAN_Enabled=0 DHCP=0 192.168.5.73 255.255.255.0 192.168.5.1

b) hbacmd AddTarget example:

hbacmd AddTarget b4-99-b1-a3-a7-e9 192.168.1.92 3260 iqn.1986-03.com.hp:storage.p2000g3.1113131afb

c) hbacmd TargetLogin example:

hbacmd TargetLogin b4-99-b1-a3-a7-e9 192.168.1.92 3260 iqn.1986-03.com.hp:storage.p2000g3.1113131afb

d) hbacmd GetiSCSILuns example:

hbacmd GetiSCSILuns b4-99-b1-a3-a7-e9 192.168.1.92 3260 iqn.1986-03.com.hp:storage.p2000g3.1113131afb

e) fdisk -l ; multipath -v3; vim /etc/multipath.conf

5) creating SR on pool master as HBA type

Emulex drivers for windows

I assume that servers were added to the pool and all of them have HBA configured.

Drivers Emulex Scsi & Raid Devices List

Then you need to use xe sr-create command with proper uuid, SCSIid provided (SCSIid is the same as your multipathed device)

Drivers Emulex Scsi & Raid Devices Download

In case of errors check /var/log/SMlog logs and read the Citrix Forum.

Shared Repository should be created and visible in XenCentre, storage type – HBA. Reboot the pool and all errors with multipath paths in XenCentre should disappear if they were not present reboot the pool anyway.
